On November 14th, Ally Sarras of WGLZ got to speak with Jim Gartland, the executive director of the National Greyhound Association, over the phone about his experiences in the greyhound industry. Ally has actually spoke with Mr. Gartland once before in 6th grade when she was conducting a social studies project in grade school about the history of greyhound racing. During said meeting, Ally inquired about the vast history of the greyhound business.
Mr. Gartland has been working in the greyhound racing industry for more than 40 years and has held a variety of positions. Some of these positions include but are not limited to management roles at Victoryland, Alabama and The Woodlands, Kansas. In this interview, we discussed his career in the greyhound racing business and his plans for retirement from the NGA (National Greyhound Association) later this year.
