WGLZ to host Dance-A-Thon Wed, Nov 19th!

WGLZ will be hosting a Dance-A-Thon on Wednesday, November 19th in the Blatnik dance studio. Anyone is welcome to participate! All proceeds from the dance-a-thon will go to the Marshall County Animal Shelter. There will be prizes for the top 2 couples that can dance the longest. If you would rather not dance, there will be an audience raffle for prizes as well!
Dancers must register as pairs; each pair costs $10 to register, or they can bring the equivalent value in shelter donations. Non-dancers may donate money or shelter supplies to participate in the audience raffle.

The night’s schedule is as follows:
5:30-6:30 – Registration 
6:30-7:30 – Dancing! 
7:30-7:40 – Break
7:40-8:40 – Dancing!
8:40-8:50 – Break
8:50-9:50 – Dancing!
9:50 – Declare winners and give away prizes!

Ready, Set, SPOOK

WGLZ is ready for Halloween.  Beginning at 8:00 p.m. on October 30th WGLZ will interrupt normal programming for a special broadcast of Orson Welles, War of the Worlds (radio drama).  This radio program aired on October 30, 1938 and became famous for creating a mass panic.

On Friday, October 31 at 1:00 p.m. WGLZ will join other West Liberty University clubs and organizations as we welcome the trick or treat parade from the West Liberty Elementary School.  The costume parade will loop around the quad outside the station.

Whatever you do for Halloween we hope you have fund and stay safe!

WGLZ Comedy Night

wglz_crdJoin WGLZ for comedy night with two special College Radio Day performances in the College Union on Thursday, October 2nd.  Doors open at 7:00 p.m.  Bring a canned food item or donate $2 for your chance to a win WGLZ College Radio Day t-shirt or gift certificate.  Increase your chance of winning by bringing multiple canned food items.  All proceeds and canned goods will be donated to the Wheeling YWCA.

 

IMG_20140818_085710The evening kicks off at 7:40 with one of West Liberty University’s own, Tyler Brown.  A junior, Health and PE major from New Cumberland, WV, Tyler describes himself as a comedian, magician, and all around entertainer with a deep passion for Twisters.  Many Hilltoppers will recognize Tyler from his performances at open mic nights.

 

At 8:00 p.m. Matt Stanton will take the stage.    This lanky Matt Stantonunforgettable graduate from Northern Kentucky, has been featured in movies and nation-wide on radio stations including The Bob & Tom Show, ESPNRADIO.com, and Yahoo!News.  Not to mention, he has performed at a variety of clubs, colleges, and festivals across western Pennsylvania.

 

College Radio Day is the day when college and university stations from across the world promote their unique voice and station programming.  In 2013, over 700 student stations in 43 different countries came together to raise awareness of the freedom and power of college radio.  Last year’s CRD received recognition from President Obama, Vice-President Biden, and special content from Wyclef Jean, Moby and Andrew WK.
