Joe Beers was born and raised 15 minutes outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in a town called Trafford. He graduated from Penn-Trafford High School in 2015, where he played men’s volleyball for two years and started his video career. Not forgetting his roots, or his favorite job to date, Joe would like to give a shout out to Dom’s Pizzeria in Trafford, PA, the best pizza and staff in Pittsburgh.
Now living in Wheeling, West Virginia, Joe attended Bethany College for two years, where he was the WVBC Sports Director for two semesters, and did color commentary for basketball and volleyball games. Starting at West Liberty this year, Joe is majoring in Broadcasting and using his prior experience to help grow WGLZ. Joe also volunteers with Young Life in the Ohio Valley, a youth ministry for high school kids, specifically at Wheeling Park High School.
Joe is a big sports fan, specifically the University of Notre Dame, along with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. And due to the lack of professional basketball in the city of Pittsburgh, Joe is a fan of the Minnesota Timberwolves, and just the NBA in general.
To Joe, college radio is the stomping ground of radio. It gives people the opportunity to discover themselves, and their personalities, while also trying to gain an audience. College radio helps build a solid reputation for radio, while also helping those on air become more comfortable, and connect to a broader audience.
After graduation, Joe’s dream position would be to work on the broadcasting team at the University of Notre Dame.
