WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., July 5, 2021 — West Liberty University’s College of Education and Human Performance is busy this summer teaching teachers in The Connected Classroom, streamed on Topper Station.
“The Connected Classroom began as a response to COVID-19, as teachers began to look for ways to seek professional development that was accessible and we developed the online classes,” explained Lou Karas, Director of the Center for Arts and Education which coordinates the series.
“Teachers are always looking for new ideas and resources for the classroom. The Connected Classroom has a little bit of everything for them, from technology to mindfulness and yoga,” added Karas, who has a master’s in education herself.
“The Connected Classroom Virtual Learning Series is focused on approaches, resources and tools for teaching and learning in K-16+ classrooms,” explained Dr. Cathy Monteroso, dean of the College of Education and Human Performance. “This is the second year for the program and it’s very popular.”
The series of classes helps teachers earn their recertification and qualify for pay increments.
In the 50-minute virtual sessions, educators learn new ways to use engaging methods and technologies. Educators can join for one or more of the 38 sessions being offered this summer.
The sessions are also posted to WLU’s Topper Station streaming platform so that participants can even access the program at their convenience.
The Summer 2021 Series continues through July 29 with sessions scheduled on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. There are a few sessions at 1 p.m. throughout the series.
Educators also have the option of receiving graduate credit, through West Liberty University, for their participation in the Connected Classroom Virtual Learning Series 3.0 this summer. Both three credit and six credit options (for re-certification and pay increments) are available at the special rate or $180 for three credits and $360 for six credits.
