WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Jan. 15, 2019 — The Nutting Gallery at West Liberty University presents “Superstition: The WLU Art Faculty Exhibition,” Jan. 16 through Feb. 7, 2019.
Art faculty members participating in this year’s exhibition are Sarah Davis, Brian Fencl, Jeffrey Grubbs, Moonjung Kang, Martyna Matusiak, Susan Ridley and Herb Weaver.
“Each year the Art Faculty Exhibition features a theme and this year the art faculty selected the theme of superstition,” said Robert Villamagna, recently retired professor and director of the Nutting Gallery.
“The dictionary defines superstition as a widely held but unjustified belief in supernatural causation leading to certain consequences of an action or event, or a practice based on such a belief,” said Villamagna.
“The works in Superstition cover a wide range of media including drawing, painting, mixed media, digital, construction, photography, and ceramics.”
“Having a new theme for the exhibition each year does a number of things,” he added.
“It brings a freshness to the annual exhibition, it challenges the members of the art faculty, and it shows students how a diverse group of artists each approach a single problem or idea, each in their own unique way and in a variety of media.”
Superstition will open from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, at West Liberty University’s Nutting Gallery. The public is invited to attend.
All exhibitions at the Nutting Art Gallery are free and open to the public. The Nutting Gallery is open 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. Evenings and weekends are by arrangement only.
