Superintendent Dianna Vargo to Deliver Commencement Address

West Liberty, W.Va., April 18, 2016 — Ohio County Schools Superintendent Dr. Dianna Vargo will deliver the commencement address at West Liberty University’s Spring 2016 Commencement Ceremony. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 7, in the Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex (ASRC).

President Dr. Stephen Greiner will preside at the ceremony and will present Vargo with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Three hundred and seventy-eight students are expected to complete graduation requirements during the spring semester.

“It is an honor to welcome Dr. Vargo as our commencement speaker. I thank her personally for taking the time from her busy schedule to address our graduates, their families and friends and all our honored guests,” Greiner said.

Vargo, a resident of Wheeling, currently serves as the Superintendent of Ohio County Schools. She earned a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Mathematics from Ohio University in 1981, a Masters of Arts in Science/Mathematics Education from Wheeling Jesuit College in 1987, a Master of Arts in Education Administration from West Virginia University in 1993, and a Doctoral in Educational Leadership from West Virginia University in 2009.

In 1983 she served as a math teacher at Wheeling Park High School. During her time at Wheeling Park High School she coached cross-country and track. She later served as an assistant principal and in 2001 she was named the Principal of Wheeling Park High School. In 2005 she was selected as the Assistant Superintendent of Ohio County Schools and served in that position until the summer of 2009 when she was appointed the Deputy Superintendent of Ohio County Schools.

In 2001 Vargo joined the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference (OVAC) as an Executive Board member and in 2007 she assumed the role of the OVAC president. In addition to serving on the OVAC Executive Board, Vargo serves on the Easter Seals Board, Wheeling Hall of Fame Committee, and the Wheeling YMCA Board of Directors. She is also a member of the Civitan of Wheeling and Wheeling Rotary Club.

Doors open for seating at commencement at 9:30 a.m. and tickets are not required.

The Commencement Ceremony will be televised live on WLU-TV 14 (Comcast Channel 14 and online at wltvonline.com).

A reception for graduates, guests and families will be held in the College Union immediately following the ceremony. Parking will be available for guests behind the ASRC.
