=M.A. ED. Emphasis Feature: Sports Leadership and Coaching=
West Liberty University offers a 36 credit hour course of study (face-to-face or online) at the West Liberty Highlands Center leading to a Master of Arts in Education degree (M.A. Ed.). The Sports Leadership and Coaching Emphasis is designed for individuals working or desiring to work in school, university, and community sports programs. It offers the opportunity to enhance one’s understanding of key issues involved in educational athletics and to further develop one’s leadership and coaching skills. You can gain a better understanding of all the courses offered for this emphasis through the Graduate Course Descriptions (page 213 – 218). =Parents’ Night Out=
Nicole Davis, Instructor of Early/Special Education, and her SPED 402 Autism II: Assessment and Intervention students will hold the “Parents’ Night Out” event at the West Liberty University Highlands Center on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, from 6 to 7:30 PM. This event offers free childcare for children with autism and their siblings. This allows parents to go shopping, go out to eat, or relax for a while without worrying about securing childcare from someone who understands autism and difficult behavior. Additionally, it gives students enrolled in SPED 402 the chance to interact and work with children with autism. This will be our second “Parents’ Night Out” event. Please feel free to pass along this information to anyone you know who may benefit from the service. =”Intro to GigaPan” Workshops=
Lou Karas, the Director of Center for Arts and Education, presented six “Intro to GigaPan” workshops at Penn State’s New Kensington campus over the spring break. Penn State’s New Kensington hosted this meeting with ABC CREATE, a partnership with 15 local school districts in the Alle-Kiski Valley, Carnegie Mellon University, Westmoreland County Community College, and the Penn State Electro-Optics Center, to expand innovative teaching and learning through the STEM disciplines.
=SMART 4c Global Model Lessons Get Started!=
Dr. Li-Wei Peng, Associate Professor of Instructional Technology and Christy Cianelli, Graduate Technology Teaching Assistant collaborated with Dr. Isaac Lee, Project Leader and Yiping Chuang, English Teacher in Taiwan to launch the first English lesson aligning the Foreign Language content standards and objectives in Taiwan on March 17. Christy and Yiping co-taught the real time online lesson involved a class of fifth graders at Wutai Elementary School in the southern Taiwan. The students learned useful words, phrases, and structures and applied them to the conversation practices. The online lessons provide students in the remote area with the opportunity to enhance their foreign language and information literacy through emerging educational technology. This research-based project will continue to the end of this semester.
Note: The SMART represents synchronous online model for assistance in remote elementary school English teachers. The 4C stands for collaboration, cooperation, co-teaching, and community.
