West Virginia Broadcasters Educational Foundation presented a $2,500 check to West Liberty University’s College of Arts and Communication recently.
“We are very grateful for the support of the broadcasters of West Virginia. This gift will be used for purchasing equipment to create audio content, providing more opportunities for media students to become better storytellers,” said Jeff Pfister, communication instructor.
iPads and professional microphones which will allow students to record, edit and post audio documentaries are the main tools being purchased thanks to the gift.
“Since the physical expansion of WLU’s Media Arts Center in 2006, the College of Arts and Communication has grown in the communication discipline.”
WLU now offers communication majors in advertising, broadcasting, communication studies, journalism, public relations and sports broadcasting.
“Our programs are making every attempt to provide students with opportunities that maximize their learning experience. This gift goes far in helping us create the best environment for teaching our future broadcasters and communication professionals,” he said.
“Students create content for the radio station as part of their classroom instruction. Some of the content, such as long form audio documentaries will be produced and submitted in national student competitions so these technological upgrades are important to our classroom work,” Pfister said.
