From left cast members at a rehearsal include, Grant Van Camp, Isaac Cardot, Zach Ziolkowski, Josie Jarrett and Hayden Heiserman.

Performances will be held at the Ashley Marie Performing Arts Center, 2850 Weir Avenue, Weirton, W.Va..

“This is a semi-staged concert version of the popular musical by Stephen Sondheim, with orchestral accompaniment,” explained Hilltop Opera Director Linda Cowan-Youssef.

“This is the first partnership between WLU and Striplight,” she noted.

Junior Hayden Heiserman, Weirton, will have the title role, and senior Josie Jarrett, Moundsville, will play his partner-in-crime, Mrs. Lovett.

An infamous tale, Sweeney Todd is an unjustly exiled barber who returns to 19th century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife.

The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which, he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett’s luck sharply shifts when Todd’s thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up.

Featuring some of the most chilling music ever written for the stage, this masterpiece is sure both to thrill and delight audiences. (Music by Stephen Sondheim; Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim; Book by Hugh Wheeler; Based on a version of “Sweeney Todd” by Christopher Bond.)
