WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., March 2, 2022 — West Liberty University Staff Council raised more than $2,000 for its Scholarship Fund recently by selling tickets for a tasty prize.
Rick Gardner, a trade specialist in the Physical Plant team, won a $500 gift card to Jacob & Sons Meats in Martins Ferry, Ohio and a $250 gift card to Lowe’s intended to allow the winner to purchase a freezer for the meat. Gardner is from St. Clairsville, Ohio.

Council members Eric Burkle, Kelly Baker, Chris McPherson and Erika Rohrig gathered on March 1 for the Staff Council Scholarship Fundraiser Drawing. After drawing Gardner’s name from those who participated, then presented him with his prize package.
The Staff Council Scholarship was created to award a staff employee or the dependent of a staff employee, a grant to be used by the individual for college expenses as they pursue an undergraduate or graduate degree at West Liberty University.
The amount of the award is $250 per semester and an application for the scholarship can be found online here.
The Staff Scholarship committee includes employees: Bree Blum, Kate Billings, Eric Burkle (chair), Kim Lemley, Chris McPherson, Marcella Snyder and Erika Rohrig.
WLU’s Staff Council meets regularly throughout the academic year. It is led by Chairperson Tasha Taylor. Other officers include: McPherson (secretary) and Baker (vice chair). Ryan Glanville serves as Staff Council representative to the Board of Governors and Yodev Ocasio serves as the Staff Council representative the State of West Virginia.
Additional Group Representatives include: Bree Blum, Leanne Coen, Jason Coleman, Michelle Heath, Randy Hollingshead, Riley Schenk, Bob Saas and Michelle Stack.
Its next meeting is at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 17 in the Alumni Room, College Union.
