Smile! It’s Dental Hygiene Month

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Oct. 16, 2019 — West Liberty University’s Sarah Whitaker Glass School of Dental Hygiene is celebrating National Dental Hygiene Month by reminding campus of the importance of maintaining a good routine of dental care.

“A healthy smile is important to your overall health,” said Stephanie Meredith, program director. “We encourage everyone to visit their dentist regularly and stay on top of their oral hygiene.”

The Sarah Whitaker Glass School of Dental Hygiene was established in 1938 and graduated its first class in 1940. Accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation, it offers both the Associate of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees.

Most recently it added the online Master of Science in Dental Hygiene (MSDH). The MSDH 30-credit hour program allows working professionals to advance their career while holding a full-time job due to the convenient structure of the two-year program.

“We filled our first class that began in August. So far the response is good and the master’s program is going smoothly. It’s definitely fulfilling the students’ expectations,” said Meredith.

WLU’s dental hygiene clinic, which is open to the public, is located in newly constructed Campbell Hall of Health Sciences. The clinic includes 24 dental operatories equipped with A-DEC brand dental units (Austin Dental Equipment Company).

The radiography suite consists of nine patient treatment rooms equipped with Gendex x-ray machines for conventional and digital x-ray imaging. Dentrix dental practice management software is utilized. All classrooms are equipped with current educational technology.

The Sarah Whitaker Glass School of Dental Hygiene is part of the College of Sciences, one of five colleges and a school of professional studies, housed at WLU.
