Recent Graduate Anna Malone Receives Scholarship

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., May 29, 2019 — West Liberty University alumna Anna Malone is the recipient of a scholarship that will assist her in graduate school.

Malone was awarded the West Virginia Association of Retired School Employees scholarship.

“We congratulate Anna for this accomplishment and we are thrilled she’s staying with us as a graduate assistant. Anna really exemplifies what our program is about,” said Dr. Catherine Monteroso, interim dean of the College of Education and Human Performance.

“Her students are glad that she’s staying too. It’s amazing the number of people she has touched on campus and in her student teaching. We are proud of her.”

Recently, Malone did her student teaching with the second grade at West Liberty Elementary.

She graduated from WLU’s College of Education and Human Performance on May 5 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She is continuing her education at WLU where she plans to earn a master’s in educational leadership, which is a two-year program taught at the Highlands Center campus.

While an undergraduate student, Malone served as vice president of Student Government Association for the 2018 – 2019 academic year. She also served as president of Kappa Phi, the Christian service organization on campus, and was president of the Council for Exceptional Children, which planned Fitness and Fun Day. She also served as president of Kappa Delta Pi, the education honorary.

Malone is from Clarksburg, W.Va. and she credits her family as motivation for her fondness for school and learning.She plans on teaching in West Virginia in either Harrison or Ohio counties, after she completes her doctoral degree.

WVARSE, recognizing the need to train future teachers with a dedication to learning and academic achievement promotes a student teacher scholarship program. Scholarships are open to students in West Virginia colleges who have successfully completed their preparation for student teaching and have been recommended by their colleges for formal student teaching in an elementary or secondary public school in West Virginia.
