Professor Ryan McCullough Earns Top Award

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., April 28, 2017 — West Liberty University communication professor, Ryan McCullough received the Top Paper Award from the Media Ecology Association at the annual meeting of the Eastern Communication Association, for his paper titled: “Un-Disciplining Media Ecology: A Return to Tradition.”

He was selected for this award by top scholars in the field at the conference with took place March 29-April 2, 2017, in Boston.

“My paper explored the history of media ecology, a field which, broadly speaking, explores the influence of media on culture.” said McCullough.

“It was truly a surprise and an honor to be recognized by the members of the Media Ecology Association, and I am really glad that I had an opportunity to represent West Liberty University at the annual meeting,” he said.

Professor McCullough teaches courses in the Journalism and Communication Studies program in the College of Art and Communications. His research interests include media ecology, rhetoric, and public relations. He is co-author of a chapter in the book Chuck Klosterman and Philosophy published in 2012.

McCullough earned his bachelor’s in communication studies and political science and his master’s in communication studies at Marshall University.

The Media Ecology Association (MEA) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the study, research, criticism, and application of media ecology in educational, industry, political, civic, social, cultural, and artistic contexts, and the open exchange of ideas, information, and research among the Association’s members and the larger community.
