WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Nov. 2, 2020 — West Liberty University now has the only fully online graduate art education program in the state of West Virginia. The new Master of Arts in Education degree program added a visual arts concentration to its concentration choices and is now enrolling for a fall 2021 start.

“This is a welcome addition to our graduate degree options and the fact that it can be completed 100 percent online or in a hybrid format if the student prefers, makes it a convenient, valuable master’s degree for today’s students,” said Sara Sweeney, director of Graduate Studies.

Dr. Jeff Grubbs developed the program and is pleased to answer questions about the new online master’s in education degree.

This degree is designed for students who already have an approved visual art teacher certification.

Associate Professor of Art Education Dr. Jeff Grubbs, who developed the content of the program said, “The goal of the program is to improve an art teacher’s knowledge and skills of visual art education both in teaching and learning practice.”

“We continue to grow our education degrees at the master’s level and add the online component since this is what so many students want. Our master’s degree numbers are up and we will continue to develop strong programs that support teaching and learning,” said Associate Professor Dr. Nicole Ennis who serves as the director for the master of education degree programs.

The 30-hour-program can be completed online or in a hybrid format with some of the courses then taking place at WLU’s Highlands Center, located at the Highlands retail park.

Applications are now being accepted for students wishing to apply. Additionally, there is only one rate for both in-state and out-of-state students. For more information, please click here or contact Sweeney at 304.336.8015 or contact Grubbs at 304.336.8370.
