WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., Aug. 14, 2017 — West Liberty University welcomes guest artists from Korea this Tuesday as it hosts an international art exhibition in the Nutting Gallery. The opening takes place at 5 p.m. and is open to the public.
“The theme is toys, like our faculty show last spring. We thought it would be interesting to see how international artists interpret this theme,” said Moonjung Kang, WLU’s associate professor of Graphic Design. “Not all the members are from the graphic design field. Many came from various majors and professions.”
More than 300 pieces have been created for the art show and six visiting Korean artists will attend the exhibition.
Kang is a native of Korea who has taught at WLU since fall 2009 in the College of Arts and Communication. She recently returned from Daejeon, South Korea with three WLU students who traveled for summer study and spent four weeks in design camp. This summer outreach is a result of a new partnership between Hanbat National University (South Korea) and West Liberty University, established in 2016.
The Korean Contents Association, of which Kang is a member, is attending and taking part in the opening. Since 2010, the Association has worked to contribute to the development of Korea’s content-related academic and industrial development through the convergence of experts and businesses and collaboration between universities and businesses in the era of technology. It has grown to 5,000 plus-members and publishes academic journals both in Korean and English.
The exhibition will remain on display until the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 18. The Nutting Gallery is located in the Hall of Fine Arts. For more information, please email Kang at mkang@westliberty.edu.
