Biography

I am an Associate Professor at West Liberty University where my research focuses primarily on the morphological and physiological differentiation of the intracellular pathogen, Francisella tularensis. My aim is to understand the molecular mechanisms that underpin morphological plasticity and physiological differentiation in F. tularensis and how these changes relate to pathogenicity and environmental persistence.

I got my PhD in 2008 from the University of East Anglia where I investigated chromosome trafficking in the soil bacterium, Streptomyces coelicolor. I continued to investigate the cell biology of S. coelicolor as a postdoctoral fellow at Lund University in Sweden where I worked on projects focused on determinants of cell polarity and growth and then moved to Duquesne University in Pittsburgh where, as a research associate, I studied cell division in Streptomyces venezuelae.
