2010 – 2011 Recipient: David Parsons, Graduate Student, Advanced Teaching Emphasis
This one-time scholarship (award amount $1000.00) is awarded to a graduate student in the Master of Arts in Education Program at West Liberty University. This is an award for the completion of the capstone project in Education.Minimum Requirements for Consideration:
1. The student selected should be enrolled in the graduate program as a degree-seeking student (M.A. Ed.) with at least 24 completed graduate hours (15 at West Liberty University).
2. The student must demonstrate a commitment to the teaching profession and intend to enter or remain in the profession upon completion of the graduate study.
3. In addition to the general application, the student must outline a one-two page proposal for why the scholarship should be awarded.
- Underwood-Smith Teacher Scholarship
Deadline: March 1, 2014
The Underwood-Smith Teacher Scholarship Program is a state funded student aid program designed to enable and encourage students to pursue teaching careers at the pre-school, elementary, middle, or secondary school level. Undergraduate and graduate scholarships, of up to $5,000 per academic year, are awarded on the basis of academic qualifications and interest in teaching. The objective is for a recipient to obtain a teaching certificate and to commit to the pursuit of a teaching career in West Virginia public schools.Due to limited funding, applications are accepted only from the students who will be a college junior, senior or graduate student during the year for which the application is being made. Undergraduate students must have a 3.25 GPA, graduate students must have a 3.5 GPA and all students must be enrolled full-time in a course of study leading to a certification as a teacher at the pre-school, elementary, middle or secondary level.
