This one-time scholarship (award amount $1000.00) is awarded to a graduate student in the Master of Arts in Education Program at West Liberty University. This is an award for the completion of the capstone project in Education.

Selection of Recipients
The selection of the student is to be made by the Director of the Graduate Program and the Dean of the College of Education. The criteria to be used in the selection will be based on two core competencies:

Background
Dr. Joseph R. Clawson attended the University of Utah and Westminster College in Salt Lake City Utah before attending dental school in Chicago, Illinois.  After receiving his Doctorate Dental Surgery Degree he was accepted to the graduate school in Oral Surgery at Loyola University of Dental Surgery.  He completed an internship and residency in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.  After practicing surgery in California, he moved to Wheeling and has spent the past 40 years in the practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.  He has taught radiology and pathology at West Liberty State College and has had two children receive degrees from the college. He has been the president of the State of West Virginia Oral Surgery Society.  He is a fellow in the American Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a lifetime member of the American Dental Association and the American Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.  He is married to Dr. Kay L. Clawson, a professor at West Liberty University.
