This one-time scholarship (award amount $5000.00) is for a rising sophomore majoring in elementary education or music education.
Minimum Requirements for Consideration
- The student should be a top sophomore elementary or music education major.
- The student must demonstrate a commitment to the teaching profession and intend to enter the profession upon completion of undergraduate or graduate study.
- The student must demonstrate strong academic performance, college and community activities, and financial need.
- Letters of recommendation from two high school teachers

Biography My Journey, My Way by Donald S. Bruno (available on Amazon.com)
Donald Bruno graduated from West Liberty State College in 1952 with a B.A. degree in Political Science and Music. Mr. Bruno also obtained his Master’s degree in Public School Administration, in addition to a Certificate of Advance Study in Public School Administration, both from the College of William and Mary. He also had the honor of serving as an Old Dominion Fellow in the Humanities at the University of Virginia. Dedicating his career to education, Mr. Bruno served as the Superintendent of Schools for the Newport News Public Schools in Newport News, VA, and was the Executive Director of the Urban Superintendents Association of America. Prior to serving in the administrative capacity, Don taught in the public school system. He is also a veteran of the United States Air Force, and served in the band. He is currently a consultant for Ray & Associates.
Mary Anne Bruno graduated from Kansas State University in 1967 with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education, and went on to receive her Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. Mrs. Bruno also completed advanced coursework from the College of William and Mary, Old Dominion University, and the University of Virginia. Mrs. Bruno has taught at the elementary education level, has served as an Assistant Principal, and was the Director of PACES, Peninsula Area Cooperative Educational Services, serving six area school districts in the Tidewater region of Virginia.
