Grow Your Own Scholarship
Deadline: May 31
This scholarship is a one-time award ($2000.00)
Eligible students participate in the Grow Your Own pilot program through Ohio or Marshall County Schools

Carolyn Sue Garrison Elementary Education Scholarship Endowment

Income from donations to this endowment shall be used to provide a full or partial scholarship(s) to one or more students to assist them in attending West Liberty State College. As a measure of predictability of student success the successful applicant must have a minimum 3.0 G.P.A. for consideration for this scholarship.

Bessie Anderson College of Education Honors Scholarship
Deadline: April 15

The four-year scholarship is to be awarded to one student and will cover the cost of tuition and fees and housing and food for incoming freshman education majors.
Minimum Requirements for Consideration:

High school GPA of 3.5 or higher
Entering full-time freshman declared education major
West Virginia resident
Qualifies for financial aid and will be ranked in accordance to the need index established under federal financial aid guidelines
Letters of recommendation from two high school teachers

Mary Casey Bates Elementary Education Scholarship
Deadline: April 15

This scholarship (award amount $800.00) is awarded to an elementary education major who exhibits academic talent and financial need.
Minimum Requirements for Consideration:

Rising freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior
Elementary education major

Donald S. and Mary Anne Bruno Education Scholarship
Deadline: April 15

This one-time scholarship (award amount $5000.00) is for a rising sophomore majoring in elementary education or music education.
Minimum Requirements for Consideration:

Sophomore elementary or music education major
Demonstrates a commitment to the teaching profession and intends to enter the profession upon completion of undergraduate or graduate study
Demonstrates strong academic performance, college and community activities, and financial need.

Barbara Dowgialo Beck Scholarship

Scholarship provides aid to one female WLU student majoring in elementary education. Scholarship can be awarded for up to four years, provided that the recipient maintains a 3.0 GPA.
Minimum Requirements for Consideration:

High school GPA of 3.25 or higher
Extracurricular activity while in high school
200 hours of community service over the last four years
Submit a written essay

Martha Goodrich Scholarship (2 Scholarships Awarded)
Deadline: April 15

One-time academic scholarship (award amount $1500.00) for a rising sophomore, junior, or senior education major from an elementary or secondary/comprehensive content area.
Minimum Requirements for Consideration:

Be a rising sophomore, junior, or senior education major (elementary, secondary, or comprehensive program)
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Demonstrates involvement in the campus community
Demonstrates a passion for teaching and a commitment to the field of education
Demonstrates financial need for the award

Doris Lakes Jones Scholarship
Deadline: April 15

This two-year (award amount $1000.00 a year) scholarship is awarded to an education major with an intent to teach in Brooke County, West Virginia. *This scholarship is awarded every other year.
Minimum Requirements for Consideration:

Rising freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior
GPA 3.0 or higher
Intent to live and work in Brooke County as a teacher upon graduation
Education major (elementary, secondary, or comprehensive)

Nicodemus Scholarship

This scholarship is a one-time award ($500.00)
Minimum Requirements for Consideration:

Student is enrolled as a full time student.
Student is registered in one of the tracks/ concentrations of the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Community Education Program (CEP).
Student stands out through their service and engagement in the community on or off campus.
Student holds a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Bob & Judy McNabb Scholarship

The purpose of the Bob and Judy McNabb Scholarship is to support a West Virginia native who, like Bob and Judy, has chosen Education as a career. Education is a career that provides promise and purpose. Bob led Martins Ferry High School as a principal for 33 years, and Judy served as a first-grade teacher for 23 years. The impact Bob and Judy made on their students is undeniable, and this scholarship sets up a future educator to do the same.

Minimum Requirements for Consideration:

Enrolled as a major in Education
Must maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain eligible
West Virginia resident
Preference to Financial Need

Leah Gracey Campbell Math Education Scholarship
Deadline: April 15

The Leah Gracey Campbell Mathematics Education Scholarship was established by Leah Gracey Campbell in 2001 through a bequest in her will. Mrs. Campbell graduated in 1939 from West Liberty State College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in math. She married Kenneth D. Campbell in August of 1940. She later graduated with a master’s degree from West Virginia University. In 1977, the West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics presented Mrs. Campbell with their Distinguished Service Award recognizing her contributions to Mathematics in the State of West Virginia. Mrs. Campbell retired from Weir High School where she taught algebra, plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, and calculus. She was also employed at Weirton Heights Elementary school.

A student majoring in mathematics education will be awarded with a scholarship of $750.00 per year ($375 per semester).

Requirements: Eligible applicants must be the top math education student (based on ACT and/or SAT and GPA).

Maria Cigalle-Sontag Education Scholarship
Deadline: April 15

Peter Sontag, a 1969 West Liberty graduate, established this scholarship in memory of his mother Maria Cigalle-Sonta, who passed away in 1995. Peter was the Chief Executive Officer of the Crown Marketing Group, and he was previously the chairman and CEO of USTravel, which he co-founded in 1986 and sold in 1994. Peter is originally from Austria, and he also holds and honorary doctorate of law from West Liberty.

Either one $500 scholarship will be awarded in increments of $250 per semester of the recipients freshman year or two $250 scholarships will be awarded during the first semester of the recipients freshman year.

Requirements:

Eligible applicants must be an incoming freshman or transfer student
Major in Health & PE or Exercise Physiology
Full-time female student
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and a score of 20 or above on the ACT

Hauch Family Scholarship
Deadline: April 15

The Hauch Family Scholarship has been created to financially aid students pursuing an Elementary Education Degree. The amount and number of yearly scholarships will be based on income available in the fund for distribution. The scholarship is designed to aid incoming freshman students and can be renewed for one year.

Requirements:

Major in Elementary Education
To renew for sophomore year the student must maintain a 3.2 GPA

The PDK Educational Foundation Scholarship
Deadline: April 2

The PDK Educational Foundation annually awards scholarships to prospective educators who have a connection to PDK. Eligible students must meet one of the following criteria.
Minimum Requirements for Consideration:

High school senior intending to major in education who is a member of a Future Educators Association® chapter in good standing.
High school senior intending to major in education who is the child or grandchild of a Kappan in good standing.
High school senior intending to major in education who has one of his/her reference letters written by a Kappan in good standing.
High school senior intending to major in education whose application is selected to represent the local PDK chapter.
An undergraduate member of an FEA or PDK chapter who is enrolled in a college education program.

Underwood-Smith Teacher Scholarship
Deadline: December 31

State funded student aid program in which undergraduate scholarships of up to $40,000.00 are awarded on the basis of academic qualifications and interest in teaching. The objective is for a recipient to obtain a teaching certificate and commit to teaching in West Virginia public schools.

Minimum Requirements for Consideration:
3.25 GPA or higher
Meets college algebra ready assessment standards and college readiness English, reading, and writing standards as established by the Commission
Meets all selection criteria established which may include, but is not limited to, GPA, extracurricular activities, financial need, current academic standing, expression of interest in a self-written essay, and letters of recommendation
Must be a citizen of the US or if a non-citizen, applicant must hold a valid Employment Authorization Document (EAD), or work permit issued by the USCIS

Teacher.org
Deadline: April 1

Teacher.org offers an annual $2,500 “Inspire Our Future” scholarship to an experienced teacher who is continuing their education, or a teacher candidate for his/her education and other associated expenses. Prospective teachers can visit Teacher.org’s website for the information on many other scholarship opportunities.
Minimum Requirements for Consideration:

At least 18 years of age
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in the United States, as listed on the U.S. Department of Education website
Students with a minimum GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
Entrants who have filled out the entry form on Teacher.org

West Liberty University Scholarships
Deadline: various

The West Liberty University Scholars Program was established to attract top academic students. Students entering as a first-time freshman may qualify for one of three designations within the Scholars Program. In addition to receiving a four-year academic scholarship, students receive other benefits under this program. Please visit the link above for more information.
