Physical Education

The goal of the Physical Education Program at West Liberty University is to provide instruction and activities in required course work designed to produce teachers of physical education, coaches, recreation leaders, health specialists, and athletic administrators; and to prepare students for graduate work and further training in the allied areas.

There are two tracks within the Physical Education Program—the Education Track and the Athletic Administrative/Coaching Track:

  1. EDUCATION TRACK — The Education Track is designed to prepare students to become Health and Physical Educators, earning PreK – Adult certification in each area.  The program is nationally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).  Certification courses are approved and recognized by the West Virginia State Department of Education.
  2. ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATION/COACHING TRACK — The Athletic Administration/Coaching Track provides students the opportunity to study all aspects of coaching including sport technique, exercise physiology, kinesiology, strength and conditioning principles, technology, nutrition, coaching/athletic administration, psycho/social influences, teaching methods, and injury care and prevention.
