Teacher Education Majors
Preschool Special Needs Education
West Liberty University offers a Preschool Special Needs Education major. The Preschool Special Needs Education major prepares students to teach in inclusive preschool and kindergarten classrooms, with certification areas in pre-K education and pre-k-K special needs. The program also offers preparation for students who are interested in working in childcare settings and early intervention (e.g., West Virginia Birth to Three).
West Liberty University offers an Elementary Education major that prepares teacher candidates for multi-subject certification in grades K-6.
West Liberty University offers majors that prepare teacher candidates for content specific certification from grades 5-Adult in English, Math, General Science, Biology, and Social Studies.
West Liberty University offers a Middle Childhood Education major that prepares teacher candidates for middle school certification in grades 5-9. The Middle Childhood Education major must choose two areas of emphasis (Math, General Science, English, Social Studies).
West Liberty University offers majors that prepare teacher candidates for content specific certification from grades PreK-Adult in Health, Physical Education, Art, and Music.
The Community Education Program gives students the option to select one of seven wide-ranging, interdisciplinary majors that expand learning and knowledge of children and adult learners outside the realm of traditional classrooms into the community:
Community Arts
This major is designed for students who are interested in the arts (e.g., theatre, dance & movement, music & youth symphony, visual arts & exhibitions) and want to become leaders in community-based organizations related to the arts, promoting the service, care, and education of children, adolescents, and life-long learners.
Disabilities Services
This major is designed for students who are interested in work related to disabilities and want to become leaders in community-based organizations working with people with disabilities, while at the same time promoting the service, care, and education of children, adolescents, and life-long learners.
Educational Leadership in Faith Organizations
This major is designed for students who are interested in faith-based leadership and want to become leaders in community-based organizations related to faith, promoting the service, care, and education of children, adolescents, and life-long learners.
Museum Education
This major is designed for students who are interested in museum education in any area (e.g., arts, sciences, historic, etc.) and want to become leaders in community-based organizations related to museums, promoting the service, care, and education of children, adolescents, and life-long learners.
Outdoor Education
This major is designed for students who are interested in the outdoors and the environment and want to become leaders in community-based organizations related to these fields, promoting the service, care, and education of children, adolescents, and life-long learners.
Sports, Recreation, and Wellness
This major is designed for students who are interested in sports, recreation, and wellness and want to become leaders in community-based organizations related to these three fields, promoting the service, care, and education of children, adolescents, and life-long learners.

Health and Human Performance Majors
Athletic Training
The Athletic Training degree at West Liberty University will give students the opportunity to experience cross-discipline studies in Physical Education, Health Education, Exercise Physiology, and Athletic Training. The education component incorporated in the degree is vital because according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately forty percent of athletic trainers work in public and private educational services, primarily colleges, universities, and high schools.
Exercise Physiology
The goal of the Exercise Physiology Program at West Liberty University is to reflect those of the American Society of Exercise Physiologists (ASEP) as well as the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), while providing students with a solid foundation in factual and conceptual mastery of human movement study.
Health and Physical Education
The goal of the Health and Physical Education Program at West Liberty University is to provide instruction and activities in required coursework designed to produce teachers of health and physical education, coaches, recreation leaders, health specialists, and athletic administrators; and to prepare students for graduate work and further training in the allied areas.
