Safety You Can
Count On
The West Liberty University Campus Police Department ensures a safe and secure campus through 24/7 patrol and a strong commitment to protecting and supporting the university community.
Campus Police provide 24-hour patrol across all areas of campus, including academic buildings, residence halls, parking lots, and faculty housing. Their continuous presence ensures rapid response to incidents and a consistent focus on safety at all times.
Our department is staffed by full-time, state-commissioned police officers with the same authority and responsibilities as local law enforcement. Officers collaborate closely with the West Virginia State Police, Sheriff’s Department, and other agencies to provide comprehensive protection and coordinated response when needed.
With nearly 100 years of combined experience, our officers bring diverse backgrounds from city, county, municipal, and campus police departments. This depth of expertise strengthens our ability to serve and protect the West Liberty community effectively.
Campus Police oversee parking enforcement across campus to maintain safety and accessibility. Tickets may be issued for violations, and individuals have the option to submit an appeal through the Parking Appeal Form, which includes detailed instructions.

The department meets or exceeds the standards set by the West Virginia Criminal Justice and Highway Safety Law Enforcement Training Committee. Officers also participate in ongoing training, including non-violent crisis intervention, domestic violence response, legal updates, and firearms proficiency.
Campus Police enforce state laws and university policies, including those related to underage drinking, controlled substances, and weapons. They also respond to emergencies such as medical incidents, fires, traffic accidents, and other situations requiring immediate assistance. Crime data is reported in alignment with Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) standards.
The Annual Campus Safety Report, required by federal law, provides a detailed overview of campus security procedures, reported incidents, and key definitions. This report is shared with all students and employees to ensure transparency and awareness across the university community.
