Credentials (ATR)

The graduate Art Therapy and Counseling (ATC) program at West Liberty University provides the coursework required for professional credentials as a registered art therapist (ATR) with the Art Therapy Credentials Board.

Please note: the ATR credential is different from licensure. The ATR credential is nationally recognized and requires postgraduate supervision hours as an art therapist. It leads to different levels of experience: ATR-P (provisional), ATR, ATR-BC (requires passing the ATCB exam), and ATR-S (supervisor).

Art Therapy/Counseling Licensure is required if you intend to engage in community or clinical practice. Licensure is regulated by the state you live in (see Art Therapy/Counseling Licensure for coursework disclosures).
