J. Edgar Broyhill, President and Chief Executive Officer of Edgar B by Mail, LTD, is a leading figure in the furniture industry. Recognized nationally, he has pioneered furniture retailing through catalog mail-order marketing and nationwide distribution.
Mr. Broyhill is the son of former U.S. Senator James T. Broyhill of North Carolina and the grandson of J.E. Broyhill founder of Broyhill Furniture Industries. The Broyhills have earned recognitiion for their business and public service leadership for three generations. Their family foundation has been the leading contributor to a vast number of educational and regilious institutions. The Broyhill Children’s Home, the Broyhill Scholarship Program, and the Broyhill Leadership Institute on college and university campuses serve as a testimony to their contribution to the improvement of quality of life.
Ed Broyhill’s local connetion to West Liberty State College and the Upper Ohio Valley is found in the leadership he provides to the Wheeling Thunderbirds, the champions of the East Coast Hockey League and the pride of West Virginia. As owner, President, and League Governor he was instrumental in establishing professional hockey in our local community, enhancing the prestige of Wheeling throughout the East Coast where the team competes.
Mr. Broyhill earned his Bachelor’s degree and his M.B.A. from Wake Forest University. He serves on the Boards of Winston-Salem State University, Gardner-Webb College, Better Business Bureau of Northwest N.C., and Pastoral Care Baptist Hospital.
He is married to Melanie Pennell Broyhill and is the father of Elizabeth, James and Pennell.
