Senior Vincent Haddox looks to go out on high note

Senior Hilltopper second baseman Vincent Haddox is ending his final season on a high note. Having the highest number of runs on the baseball team, an amazing batting average of .301, and being only 11 hits away from breaking the hit record here at West Liberty as of May 4, this power hitter proves time and time again that he is an all-star.

Alpha Xi Delta raises autism awareness throughout April

The sorority Alpha Xi Delta has planned multiple events throughout the month of April to spread autism awareness on the hilltop. These girls have come together to set up fundraisers at local restaurants, campus gatherings, snow cone sales, tie-dying shirts and a flag football contest to raise money.

WLU softball prepares for busy Easter weekend

The Hilltopper softball team will have plenty of game time on the field as they will be taking on Shepherd University and Fairmont State University this upcoming weekend. The softball team’s record currently stands at nine wins and nine losses as of March 26. They are hoping to boost their win count with the consecutive games being played this weekend. 

Darius Bunch leads Hilltopper wrestling to regionals

The Hilltopper wrestling season is coming to a close with only two weeks remaining in the postseason. The regional tournament held at the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown has concluded and one wrestler, Darius Bunch, of the starting ten has advanced to the NCAA Division II national wrestling tournament in Iowa.

WLU opens development offices in downtown Wheeling

The city of Wheeling now has a small piece of West Liberty in their atmosphere. The West Liberty University Foundation is leasing office spaces located at 1100 Main Street, otherwise known as the former Horne’s building, as multi-purpose units. These offices will be used as easy access for outside business meetings with West Liberty University.

Hilltopper football set to bounce back against Charleston

The Hilltoppers’ football team has started off their season with one win and one loss. Losing 34-0 on the road against West Virginia Wesleyan was a setback for the Hilltoppers. Putting themselves in a deep hole in the first quarter, the Hilltoppers went down 0-20 with Wesleyan scoring three touchdowns. One of the touchdowns was an impressive blocked punt, which was recovered by Anthony Robinson in the end zone. 

FCA invites all to join, attend ‘Light Up the Hilltop’

With college starting up, freshman and transfers are looking for ways to get connected to the school. Getting involved on campus through clubs is a great way to meet new friends and possibly find a new passion. One club up here on the hilltop is FCA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes. 

Topper football win season opener against Urbana

Football up on the hilltop has officially started up again. The West Liberty Hilltoppers kicked off their season against the Urbana Blue Knights at 7:10 p.m. Having a winning history with this team, being 6-1 with previous played games, the Hilltoppers were confident they would achieve success.

Sports are a large part of the community up here on the hilltop, one of these being football. Attracting crowds of locals, students and staff, it brings everyone together for a social event and entertaining competition. The West Liberty football team is looking forward to a successful season, hoping to improve from last year’s record of four wins and seven losses.
