Women’s basketball impressive season concludes at MEC tournament

The women’s basketball season came to an end on March 1 as West Liberty was defeated 64-55 by Fairmont State during the quarterfinals of the Mountain East Conference Tournament. With head coach Kyle Cooper at the helm for his first year, the Lady Toppers improved their record from last year by four wins and produced a First-Team All-MEC honoree in junior forward, Marissa Brown. With Coach Cooper and Brown leading the charge, the Lady Toppers’ basketball program was revitalized this season. 

Hilltoppers advance to Atlantic Region Tournament

The men’s basketball team will travel to Petersburg, Va. this weekend for their ninth straight NCAA Division II Tournament. The regional rankings came out this past Sunday night, and the Hilltoppers fell to the No. 4 seed in the tournament.

With the regular season quickly coming to a close and the Mountain East Conference (MEC) tournament in Charleston awaiting teams at the end of the month, every game becomes important for seeding in the tournament.
 
For West Liberty’s men’s basketball team, this is certainly the case as picking up both wins this week, one on the road and one at home, can guarantee the Toppers the MEC Regular Season Championship and a No. 1 seed come tournament time.

The No. 5 West Liberty University men’s basketball team will take on West Virginia State tonight at 7:30 p.m., followed by University of Charleston on Saturday. With two wins this weekend, WLU will extend its current winning streak to four games.

The West Liberty University men’s basketball team will travel this weekend to Fairmont, W.Va. to take on the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) match-up.
 
As of Jan. 21, the Hilltoppers are sporting a 17-0 overall record and a 12-0 record in conference games, and the Falcons have a 14-4 overall record and a 10-2 record in conference games, with their losses coming against West Virginia State and the Hilltoppers earlier in the season by a score of 100-106.

West Liberty’s women’s basketball team will travel to Fairmont, W.Va. on Sunday for its final matchup against the Lady Fighting Falcons at 2:30 p.m. WLU took the first matchup, and our Lady Toppers will look to make it a sweep with a victory on the road.

WLU basketball returns to hilltop after break

West Liberty University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams returned to the hilltop Saturday, Jan. 6, for their first home games of the year. Both squads pulled out a win, as our men’s team continues their perfect season and our Lady Toppers improve to 5-9.

Three weeks ago, shocking news was announced on the West Liberty basketball Twitter account that senior point guard Brady Arnold had been diagnosed with an illness that will sideline him for the entire 2017-18 season.
