WLU offers exciting study abroad programs for summer 2018

Studying abroad is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It provides a cultural knowledge of the world that you can’t get anywhere else, and it also expands your experience beyond the classroom. West Liberty University has been offering study abroad programs for a few years. Although they can be a bit pricey, students are encouraged to take on the adventure.

Are you interested in studying abroad? Do you want to travel the world? Luckily, West Liberty University and Hanbat Nation University in South Korea are creating a new an exciting partnership.

Students learn about German culture and community in Würzburg

In addition to France and Poland, Germany was another study abroad destination for Hilltoppers this past summer. 16 students total, nine from WLU and others from Fairmont, WVU, and WVU of Parkersburg, traveled to Würzburg. The trip lasted from July 1 to 16, and it was led by Dr. Miriam Roth Douglas.

Unlike the other study abroad trips, the students who attended this one came from especially diverse academic backgrounds. Education, Criminal Justice, Math, Political Science, English, and Biology were just some of the majors that were represented.

Psychology major studies abroad in Iceland

A group of nine West Liberty students spent seven days this past summer in Iceland with WLU Instructor of Geography Dr. Aron Massey and his wife, Cassandra Massey. The trip took place from July 17 to July 26.

One of the nine, WLU junior psychology major Laken Lambert, came across the opportunity for the trip while taking one of Dr. Masseyʼs geography classes. “It was a spontaneous decision that I was debating up until I made the final payment,” Laken admitted, “but it was definitely worthwhile!”

This summer, West Liberty University sent Hilltoppers off to many countries around the world to study, learn, and travel to global destinations far removed from the Ohio Valley. These world travelers return to school this fall with their amazing stories, experiences, and pictures to share with the rest of the West Liberty community.
