MAD Festival returns to the hilltop for the 19th year

The West Liberty University’s annual MAD Festival will take place on WLU campus on Friday, April 12, 2019. The competition is open for submissions between Jan. 14 and March 1, 2019.

The Marching Hilltoppers return after 2 years

After a two year hiatus due to state budget cuts, the West Liberty University’s Marching Hilltoppers return to campus. A press conference made the initial announcement of the anticipated marching band’s return on Sept. 21, 2017. This season marks the first time since the fall of 2015 that the marching band will play during halftime.

My dreams came true because of Shania Twain

We turned around as we heard loud drumbeats coming from the second stage of PPG Paints Arena where she, wearing a glittery black gown with matching cowboy hat, appeared in spotlight. Shania Twain strutted down the from first bowl to the main stage where I was eagerly awaiting in the front row.

When she triumphantly asked, “Are you ready, Pittsburgh?” I knew my dreams were coming true as the greatest night of my life began.

Greco named director of percussion, world music

Mitchell Greco arrived at West Liberty University in the fall, bringing with him knowledge of world music. Originally from Rochester, N.Y., Greco did his schooling in Buffalo, N.Y., Cleveland, Ohio and Western, N.C. before coming to West Virginia five years ago.  
 
Recently, he was named director of percussion and world music at WLU, and soon he will direct the drum line when the marching band returns this fall.

Favorite artists that remind me of my mother

Everybody has a song that reminds them of someone, whether it be a ballad that reminds you of your significant other, a pump up song that reminds you of your best friend, or any other song. Music is something that brought my mother and I very close together. We went to multiple concerts together and bonded through the different artists.

Waterparks band releases beautiful, touching single

A few days ago, pop punk band Waterparks dropped a new single from their upcoming album, Entertainment. This song is titled Lucky People, and one of the first things I noticed about this song is how beautiful it is. It instantly caught my attention after the first listen.

Community choir brings students and locals together in song

West Liberty’s College Community Choir offers students and the Wheeling community the opportunity to join forces and form a choir ensemble off-campus. Under the new leadership of Ryan Keeling, the alumnus is thrilled to conduct the chorus as it approaches its semesterly performance.
