MAD Festival returns to WLU for 18th year

You might have noticed the posters about MAD Festival around campus, especially if you are in the Fine Arts Building. MAD Festival stands for Media Arts and Design and is an event that is held once a year in the spring at West Liberty University. This year, it will take place on Friday, April 6.

Senior show is a success in Nutting Gallery

Each semester, graduating seniors at West Liberty University participate in the show in order to complete their degree in Graphic Design or Art Education. This semester, five artists are featured in the exhibit: Jenny Ball, Jessica Bethel, Alyssa Culp, Emily Jessee and Courtney Moore. The highly anticipated and successful Senior Exhibition is on display now through May 11 in the Nutting Gallery in the Fine Arts Building.

MADfest 2017 impresses students

West Liberty University’s Media Arts and Design Festival (MADfest) kicked off bright and early on Friday, April 10. High school students from all over the valley came up to campus for a day filled with the arts and a chance to show off their own talents.

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va.— West Liberty senior art students are showcasing their best work at the Senior Exhibition on Wednesday, April 19th. The opening reception is to be held at the Nutting Art Gallery from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The show is free and the art work is to be displayed up until Thursday, May 11th.  

Excitement builds for MADfest 2017

The West Liberty University community is ready to welcome over 350 high school students for the 17th annual MADfest this Friday, April 7.
Competition entries were submitted up until March 11, and MADfest director and West Liberty Professor Jim Haizlett is pleased with the number of submissions.

MADfest returns, boasting popularity in numbers

The ever-popular West Virginia Media Arts and Design Festival (MADfest) is approaching its 17th year at West Liberty University with much anticipation for April 7, 2017. The maximum 325 high school student spots filled up in less than a week of pre-registration, and according to festival director Jim Haizlett, over 100 high schoolers are on a waiting list.

Adam Basanta Brings Sound and Sculpture to Nutting Gallery

Wednesday, March 30th saw the opening of one of the most intriguing exhibits to be presented in West Liberty’s Nutting Gallery. The gallery is typically host to incredible works of visual art, including professional shows, faculty shows, and my personal favorite, student works. This one added the extra dimension of sound to the proceedings, making for works that were both sculptural and musical.

16th Annual MADfest to Showcase Student Talent

The Media Arts and Design Festival (MADfest) will take place Friday, April 8th. This year marks the 16th edition of the arts festival and will showcase student work in a variety of mediums including graphic design, photography, film, drawing, and music. Since we last reported, students from West Liberty, as well as high schools in the tristate area, have submitted work to be presented and viewed by professional guest jurors.
