Students compete acapella in first round of West Lib Idol

West Lib Idol returned to the hilltop tonight, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m. in the College Union Ballroom. All contestants had to perform acapella.

West Lib Idol’s emcees of the night were students Noah Woods and Kyle Lindsey. The judges were Alek Thibodeaux, Assistant Director of Recruitment for Theta Xi; Marcella Snyder, Executive Director of Housing and Student Life; Travis Hinkle, Admissions Counselor; and Morgan Wagner, winner of the 2015 West Lib Idol.

In the order they preformed, the 14 contestants and the songs they performed are as follows:

Zarek Wiley sang “Locked out of Heaven” by Bruno Mars; Natto de Soares “All of Me” by John Legend; Melinda McCumbers sang “Apologize” by OneRepublic; Sabrina Krouf sang a mashup of “Let Her Go” by Passenger and “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons; Greg Calinger sang “Iris” by Goo Goo Dolls; Cody Waggoner sang “For the First Time” by The Script; Hannah Hlad sang “Someone Like You” by Adele.

Josie Jarrett sang “Edge of Night (Pippin’s Song)” from “Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King;” Emilie Wesney sang “Girl Crush” by Little Big Town; Ellis Randall sang “Ordinary People” by John Legend; Abby Reeves sang “No One” by Alicia Keys; Sara Wright sang “Perfect” by P!nk; Brooke Dorsey sang “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten; Yale Hughes sang “Ava Maria.”

The 11 contestants who will advance on to next week’s competition are Natto dJesus, Sabrina Krouf, Cody Waggoner, Hannah Hlad, Josie Jarrett, Emilie Wesney, Ellis Randall, Abby Reeves, Sara Wright, Brooke Dorsey, and Yale Hughes.

Luke Tacosik, Area Coordinator, and the West Liberty Office of Housing and Student Life puts on West Lib Idol.

Audience members had the chance to win a prize by using the West Lib Idol Snapchat filter and tweeting the picture to the West Lib Idol Twitter page.
