International Club is hosting their eighth annual food celebration on Monday, March 21st. They will be set up in the College Union Ballroom from 3-6p.m. and all are welcome. This semester there is a total of 55 international students from 15 countries, which will be represented during the celebration.
Not only will you have the opportunity to taste flavors from around the world but the students will be dressed in their national clothing. “I am excited to show West Liberty University authentic food from my country, Turkmenistan. It is also very fun to dress in my national clothing for a change,” said sophomore Natasha Muhametzyanova.
You will be ensured an authentic experience when coming to this event. Free samples will be offered to the hungry guests but each country will be selling portions at a dollar per country.
Freshman Gulfiya Kadyrzhanova is preparing a traditional dish from her home country, Kazakhstan – a beef and potato cuisine called ‘Kuyrdak’.
“My dish is steamed beef and potatoes with onions and sauce. It is very good, I am looking forward to the celebration,” said Gulfiya.
Natasha Muhametzyanova will be presenting a dish called ‘lyulya kebab’. “I think I am most excited about trying different foods from other countries, last year was very tasty,” said Natasha.
I encourage the West Liberty Community to not pass up this opportunity. Come out to enjoy this annual celebration and to try flavor filled cuisines from around the globe. Other countries that will be represented include: El Salvador, Japan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, and even Ukraine.
