Michele DeRita, Senior Human Resources Representative at West Liberty University will be retiring after almost 30 years of service.
“I retire Sept. 1 and I was hired Sept. 6. So, I am missing four or five days of having 30 years,” said DeRita. Although she loved her time here at West Liberty, she is ready to move forward. She said that she is excited yet sad at the same to be retiring.
“I’m excited because I am tired,” she said. “When I was younger, I remember people who were getting ready to retire saying they were just ready and I could never understand that back then, but now I know.” Even though it is hard for DeRita to leave, she still has plans to enjoy her retirement. She plans on doing absolutely nothing for a while and taking time to relax. A couple of things she has in mind is to go walking on the trail to get more exercise, going shopping, and also get some vacation time in.
“I usually go to Put-in-Bay every year, and I missed last year; so, I am going to make it a point to go to Put-in-Bay in probably May or June,” said DeRita. Not only has she been finishing up her last year as an HR Representative, she has also been working on her health.
DeRita has lost 80 pounds on Weight Watchers. She says it was as simple as counting the points. There was no exercise involved just watching and balancing her food.
“I am not much into exercising,” said DeRita, “I am going to stick to being healthy, not only by eating right, but by also going on walks with a good friend of mine.” Not only does she plan on exercising more, but she also plans to spend more time with her grandchildren.
She said the best part about working here was the people. “I have been very fortunate. (Everyone) whom I have worked with have all been great. They are great to work with, helpful, and bend over backwards for you,” said DeRita.
The Trumpet and West Liberty University would like to take the time to thank Michele DeRita for her time and effort with this University. For more information about HR representatives, please call 304-336-8029. You may also reach the HR office through the university website.
