No. 1 WLU Men’s Basketball to Host FSU

By Allison Bertozzi, Contributing Writer

The WLU men’s basketball squad just won their 6th straight game this past Thursday, taking out the Rams of Shepherd University. Junior guard Devin Hoehn scored his 1,000th career point. Coming off this 95-71 victory, the Hilltoppers are prepared to take on the No. 8 Falcons from Fairmont State University.

The Falcons are coming off their own big victory Thursday night, having topped Wheeling Jesuit 94-91 on FSU’s home court. The Falcons shot 55.7 percent from the field, coupled with a .462 three point field goal percentage. Despite these stats, the game was still a battle until the end. The game featured 13 ties and 10 lead changes before a 15-4 run at the midway point of the second half gave the Falcons the lead for the rest of the game. Score leaders to watch out for from FSU include: junior guard/forward Matt Bingaya (18 ppg); junior guard Caleb Davis (13.5 ppg); Jamel Morris (11.8 ppg); and Chase Connor (10.8 ppg).

The Falcon’s efforts against Jesuit prove they have endurance, but so do our Hilltoppers. We have our own impressive set of score leaders, including: senior forward Seger Bonifant (27.7 ppg); Devin Hoehn (16.1 ppg); freshman guard David Dennis Jr. (14.9 ppg); and sophomore guard Brady Arnold (12.0 ppg).

The Hilltoppers taking on the Falcons is an early-season Top 10 showdown, and as Crutchfield says, anticipation is running especially high. “You know this place will be packed and the intensity will be off the charts, which is the way we like it. We’ll play as hard as we can for as long as we can. I know we’re looking forward to the challenge.”

Tip-off Saturday is at 4:00 p.m. in the ASRC.
