Beth Salatino Memorial Scholarship Established

A scholarship fund has been established in the West Liberty University Foundation in memory of the university’s beloved colleague, Beth (Baker) Salatino who passed away suddenly on the night of Nov. 3rd. Beth Salatino held the position of financial aid counselor, was an employee of WLU for about 25 years, and was married to alumnus and employee Anthony Salatino.

“She was an Ohio Valley native and life long resident. She grew up in Wheeling and graduated from Wheeling Park High School in 1984 and attended West Liberty right after graduation. She graduated from West Liberty in May of 1988,” said Scott Cook, Vice president of Student Services/Registrar.

She helped set up work-study for students, helped with financial aid questions, and these two responsibilities are just two of the many ways she helped students and the university. “She worked with students to help them get their bills paid, she was in charge of the work study programs, and she worked with students who needed to be placed for work study jobs,” said Cook.

Prayer Services were held on Nov. 4th at 12 pm. at the Aquinas Center to remember Beth. Grief counseling services were also offered in the HR conference room #323 of Shaw Hall on Nov. 4th from 1-3:00 pm. “As we grieve the loss of Beth Salatino, a beloved colleague, we thought it was fitting to provide grief counseling services for employees,” said Diana Harto, PHR, SHRM-CP of WLU.

Students who have met with Mrs. Salatino were shocked to hear of her sudden death. “It’s sad, I just spoke with her last week when I saw her in the registrar’s office. She was the one who helped me through the application process when I transferred to West Liberty last semester. She will be missed,” said junior Broadcasting Major, Elissabeth Parsons.

While there is a scholarship that has been established in Mrs. Salatino’s honor, there are no known details of who is eligible. WLU community members who wish to contribute to the scholarship may send contributions to the Office of Institutional Advancement, College Union Box 133. Please make checks payable to: West Liberty University Foundation.
