West Liberty Fights Past Urbana

The Hilltoppers’ get an all around team victory as they defeat Urbana 28-12 on Thursday night at West Family stadium. West Liberty advances to 2-2 on the year now. The Hilltoppers’ played extremely well on both sides of the ball and got the job done.

On offense, West Liberty combined for 346 yards with only 14 first downs. Quarterback Dakota Conwell went 11 of 21 for 212 yards, one interception, and four touchdowns. Three of his four touchdown passes were caught by tight end Daree Goodwin. Goodwin caught five passes for a total of 125 yards and three touchdowns.

In the receiving mix was red-shirt freshman Ian Kelly. Kelly caught three passes for 68 yards and one touchdown. Jeremiah Ortiz and Devone Penick led the team in rushing yards. Ortiz carried the ball 15 times for 60 yards, while Penick carried the ball two times for 36 yards. West Liberty ended the night with 134 total rushing yards.

The West Liberty defense carried the Toppers’ in tonight’s game. They may have allowed 493 total yards of Urbana offense, but they only allowed 12 points. Terrance Baldwin and Andrew Faraimo led the team in tackles tonight. Baldwin ended the night with 11 total tackles, and Faraimo finished with nine total tackles.

Four other defensive players were tied with seven total tackles. The West Liberty defense accounted for two interceptions in tonight’s contest. On the interceptions were Solomon Dixon and Andrew Faraimo.

The Blue Knight offense totaled for 493 yards tonight. We saw two quarterbacks play tonight for Urbana. Cale Burdyshaw was 27 of 48 for 214 yards, two interceptions, and one touchdown. Eric Pelfrey went 7 for 13 with 112 yards and one touchdown.

Seven different receivers were used for Urbana, but only two really stood out from the others. Trevon Saunders caught four passes for 84 yards and one touchdown, and Karim Jones Jr. received seven passes for 68 yards. Ben Sasu led the Blue Knight rushing game with 19 carries for 105 yards.

The Blue Knight defense had some difficulty handling the Hilltopper offense tonight, especially Daree Goodwin. Only one name stands out from the others and that is linebacker Bo Keener. Keener led the team with seven total tackles. Four other players were tied with six total tackles. Josh Dillard had the lone interception tonight for Urbana.

West Liberty will play next weekend at West Virginia Wesleyan in Buckhannon, W Va. Kick-off is set for 1 P.M.
