Turnovers cost the Toppers the game

West Liberty loses by a final score of 36-30 against Fairmont State Thursday night. The Hilltoppers turned the ball over seven times, including five interceptions and two fumbles. West Liberty took the lead late, but just couldn’t hold off the Falcon offense.

The Hilltopper offense combined for a total of 415 yards, 209 rushing and 206 passing. Both quarterbacks saw action tonight against the Falcons. Dylan LaGarde went 6-9 for 116 yards with two touchdown passes and three interceptions. Red-shirt freshman Brent Colabella went 7-19 for 90 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Jeremiah Ortiz touched the ball 28 times and rushed for 217 yards and one touchdown. Tight end Daree’ Goodwin led the receiving game catching six passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

West Liberty’s defense allowed 376 yards of total Falcon offense. There wasn’t too much to talk about on defense but linebacker Jed Fue let the defense with nine total tackles and two of those tackles were for a loss.

The Falcon offense threw for 187 yards and rushed for 189 yards. Quarterback Cooper Hibbs went 22-38 for 187 yards and two touchdown passes. He also ran nine times for 85 yards and one touchdown. Austin White ran the ball 16 times for 98 yards and one touchdown. Brandon Boyd and Fabian Guerra led in the receiving stats tonight. Boyd caught eight passes for 77 yards and Guerra caught six passes for 54 yards and one touchdown.

The Falcons’ defense was on fire tonight as they committed seven turnovers! Linebacker Marcus Porter led the team in tackles with nine and one interception. On the other four interceptions were Jacob Jean-Charles, Calvin Pringles, Emanuel Ivey, and Josh Ballard. Jacob Jean-Charles also forced a fumble in tonight’s game.

West Liberty will play next Thursday night against Urbana at West Family Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 P.M.
