West Liberty’s library has made some significant technical advances. The most prominent being the new network wiring that will allow for more data speed, reliability, and better access. Particularly to students working on multiple devices, such as a computers and phones. It is rather ironic that students will enjoy this the most, but cannot physically see it.
Other improvements include two brand new collaborative work stations with 47 inch flat screens. They have Apple TV hook up so that it can work with iPads or mirror laptops. This is beneficial to both professors and students.
It is perfect for group work and professors can even use two separate iPads to run the same presentation at the same time. Students may enjoy the fact that the table also doubles as a white board. This way they may write notes directly on the table itself and not have to worry about forgetting notebooks or typing in their own devices. As Elbin Librarian, Luann Johnson stated, “It will change the way you can view and work in data.”
Upcoming attractions may also entice students. Silicon cooling mats have been ordered for the collaborative work stations so that students do not have to worry about their laptops overheating on the table. There are six new IMAX’s. Also four egg chairs with stereo sound and blue tooth connectivity have also been ordered. They will hopefully be here by Christmas.
This would have all been ordered and completed sooner, but the library began ordering them in July. The start of the fiscal year when they got their funding. For many students these new developments are a revelation. Those of whom were listening to the students at WLU definitely followed through with our requests and then some.
