The Hilltop Players begin their 2018-2019 with William Gibson’s classic THE MIRACLE WORKER.

In THE MIRACLE WORKER, the human spirit’s courage and resilience is revealed through the loving determination of a teacher (Annie Sullivan) and student (Helen Keller). The performance, produced by the Hilltop Players, is being directed by Maggie Balsley, retired WLU faculty member.
Set in the American South in the 1880s, THE MIRACLE WORKER tells the story of real-life Medal of Freedom winner Helen Keller, who lost her sight and hearing at the age of 19 months, and the extraordinary teacher who helps her find a way into the world of knowledge and understanding.
In some of the most emotion-packed scenes ever presented on the stage, Helen overcomes rage and confusion to triumph over her physical disabilities. Randy Kovitz, professional actor and fight choreographer, has been brought in to work with the cast to create the intensity of the fights while maintaining the safety of all of the combatants.
The 1960 Broadway premiere won five Tony Awards including Best Play, and starred Patty Duke as Helen Keller and Anne Bancroft as Annie Sullivan. The 1962 film version earned an Oscar nomination for William Gibson‘s adaptation.
