    Parents and families are invited to join us during Family Weekend for a special session hosted by the Student Success Center. Learn how WLU supports students in exploring majors, finding internships, landing jobs, and preparing for graduate school. You’ll gain insight into the career resources available to your student from day one through graduation—and beyond.

Family Weekend FAQ

All families of WLU students can attend our Family Weekend! Bring mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, aunts, and uncles, whoever you’d like! 

Nothing! We do not charge our families to attend. However, if you plan on eating on campus at the dining facilities, there may be an added cost.

Advanced registration is encouraged but not required.  

RSVP is required for:  

  • President’s Brunch
  • Football Game

Friday: 3–6 p.m. Union Ballroom

Saturday: 9 a.m. Colonial Heights (President’s House).  

You will receive name tags, lanyards, tote bag, and event info.  

During Family Weekend, we host several unique events. However, we want to give you time to spend with your students. Take them shopping. Treat them to dinner. This is your weekend to hang out with your students. 

RSVP required to receive a free football ticket. Pickup at Will Call at West Family Stadium as you arrive for the game. 

Additional events including men’s and women’s soccer games do not require a ticket 

Yes, residential students are permitted to have up to two overnight guests in their room. All guests must be checked in with the RA each evening they are staying on campus. Guests may stay for no more than three consecutive nights and no more than eight total nights within a calendar month. 

For additional visitation and guest policies in the residence halls, please refer to the Student Handbook.  

If you or a member of your party requires accessibility accommodations, please indicate your needs on the Family Weekend registration form. To assist guests with mobility concerns, golf carts will be circulating throughout campus before scheduled sessions and events to help transport attendees between locations. If you have specific accommodation requests, we encourage you to notify us in advance so we can best support your visit.

The Bookstore is great for picking up WLU gear. During the weekend, the bookstore will be open on Friday 8am-4pm, and then at the football game at West Family Stadium.

Beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, and continuing through Sunday, September 27, Family Weekend staff can be reached by call or text at 304-975-4005 for assistance during the event.

Parking:  

  • Parking is free and available across campus 
  • If you are arriving Friday after 4pm and throughout the weekend (Saturday and Sunday), all lots (Student, Faculty, Visitor lots are all open to visitors. If you are arriving before 4pm on Friday, please park in a designated visitors spot  
  • Check out the campus map for all lot designations.

All residential students with meal plans have 5 guest meal swipes for the Bears Den, to be used at any time throughout the semester. Those guest meals can be used throughout the weekend!  

  • Nearby hotels in Wheeling include Hampton Inn, SpringHill Suites, and Fairfield Inn. 
  • Wear comfortable shoes and school colors.
  • Arrive early for major events. 
  • Plan dining ahead during busy times.
