Social Work Scholarships

David T. Javersak College of Liberal and Creative Arts Scholarship Fund – This scholarship fund is named in honor of Dr. David T. Javersak, Professor Emeritus and Dean Emeritus of West Liberty University. Dr. Javersak taught history for 39 years and served as Dean of the College of Liberal and Creative Arts from 1986 until his retirement in 2007.

Five $500.00 scholarships will be awarded each year to students majoring in English, Criminal Justice, Social Science (concentration in History or Geography & Planning), and Social Work. Scholarships will be awarded based upon academic performance and/or financial need. Students may reapply each year providing that they remain in a designated degree program and maintain the required GPA.

Northwood Health Systems Tuition Payment Program

An Educational Partnership with Northwood Health Systems and the WLU Social Work Program

Northwood Health Systems, in cooperation with West Liberty University, is offering an undergraduate tuition payment program to address the community’s increased need for substance abuse and mental health professionals.  Through the program, Northwood will pay up to $15,000 to help qualified employees obtain a bachelor’s degree in social work at West Liberty University.

To be eligible, students must work for Northwood at least 24 hours per week for two years, while also completing 12 hours of undergraduate studies per semester during that two year period.  At the end of the two year period, if the employee has maintained at least a 2.0 grade point average and been employed without disciplinary problems, Northwood will pay up to $15,000 for the employee to continue his/her education at West Liberty University to obtain a bachelor’s degree in social work.  Paid internships at Northwood also count toward the employment requirement.
