Biography
Dr. Blackburn joined the Department of Social Work as the Field Placement Coordinator in the Fall of 2019. Before arriving at West Liberty University, she worked in the prison system as both a department administrator and a clinical social worker. Dr. Blackburn is a Licensed Independent Social Worker with experience working with mental illness, trauma, and addiction in a variety of settings to include corrections, inpatient, residential, and outpatient with both adults and children. Dr. Blackburn also brings professional experience through her service as a military social worker. She has a passion for working with the topics of trauma and resilience and incorporates them into the Minor in Addictions Studies courses SWK 441 Mental Health Assessment and Intervention, and SWK 409 Trauma Informed Practice. Dr. Blackburn is excited to be working with students and community organizations for the Social Work Program’s pedagogical experience of Field Placement.

When not working, Dr. Blackburn is an avid runner who regularly participates in endurance competitions and Ultramarathons
