WV Association of Probation Officers Present Scholarship to Criminal Justice Major

Shawn Dyer, a junior criminal justice major and member of the Hilltopper men’s basketball team received the West Virginia Association of Probation Officers (WVAPO) Scholarship recently.

The $1,250 award was presented on Oct. 24 at the annual WVAPO banquet held in Charleston, W.Va.

Dyer, who is from Marion, Ohio, attended the banquet with Jim Lee, an adjunct instructor in criminal justice at WLU.

Recently retired, Lee served as chief probation officer for West Virginia’s First Judicial Circuit from 1972-2013 and is a nationally renowned proponent of drug and mental health treatment courts for offenders.

He continues to serve the university as an adjunct instructor.

Criminal Justice is a program within WLU’s College of Liberal Arts that combines aspects of criminal justice, sociology, social work, psychology, history and law.
