West Liberty University employee Jared Thompson was promoted to the position of senior producer/engineer recently.

“I am grateful to have the opportunity to continue my professional career at WLU and look forward to my expanded duties,” he said. His immediate supervisor is Theresa Gretchen, executive director/producer of WLUTV-14.

A 2009 graduate of West Liberty University, Thompson earned his bachelor’s degree in digital media design and currently is completing his Master’s of Education in Technology degree. His passion for video production began in high school when he taught himself how to use Adobe Premiere editing software.

While an undergraduate student at WLU, he was one of the first student crew members of WLUTV-14, where his duties included everything from directing the various studio shows to camera work and engineering for remote events.

After graduation, he was hired by WLU as a video production specialist and producer. He also is an adjunct teacher, instructing students in video techniques, video editing in Adobe Premiere and Communications 101.

Thompson also has been the web producer for the West Virginia Governor’s School for the Arts for the past six years. He also owns and operates a video production company, Thompson Video Productions.

Thompson also has produced a video documentary on the Marx Toy Museum in Moundsville, W.Va., which is sold in several locations across the country. Most recently, he has had some of his footage purchased for use in a regional commercial that will run in several states on the East coast.

A native of Woodsfield, Ohio, Thompson resides in downtown Wheeling. He enjoys biking, cooking, photography and all things video related.

WLUTV-14 can be viewed both live via the Internet, 24 hours-a-day/365 days-a-year to an unlimited number of viewers in addition to its Comcast Cable station that reaches nearly 100,000 homes. To learn more, visit westliberty.edu/wltv.
