WHEELLING, W.Va., Oct. 21, 2016 —The Ohio Valley Athletic Conference (OVAC) announced today that West Liberty University has signed on as the first-ever presenting sponsor of the OVAC Junior High Cheerleading Championships. The cheering competition takes place on Saturday, Oct. 29 at WesBanco Arena.

“The Conference is very pleased that West Liberty University has agreed to become the lead sponsor the OVAC Junior High Cheering Championship,” stated OVAC Executive Secretary, Tom Rataiczak, “With it moving to WesBanco Arena, we are entering a new era for these athletes. Having WLU involved and interacting with them and the schools can only produce positive results.”

OVAC’s Tom Rataiczak is shown with President Stephen Greiner in Shaw Hall.

“West Liberty University is proud to support the OVAC, its cheering competition and our high school athletes. We wish all the students well and invite them to visit us on the hilltop soon,” said Dr. Stephen Greiner, WLU president.

Approximately 24 middle schools are expected to compete in three divisions. The event was relocated to WesBanco Arena this year to allow for more seating, as it has grown significantly over the last few years.

Scholastic Sports Marketing, the OVAC’s marketing arm, negotiated the terms of the partnership.
