WLU Professor Receives Article of the Year Award

WLU Interim Chair of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Dr. Robert Kruse, is the recipient of the Southeastern Geographer Outstanding Article for this year.

His article “ The Geographical Imagination of Barack Obama: Representing Race and Space in America” was selected by committee members on the following criteria: (a) scholarship of exceptional merit and quality that addresses a significant research issue, (b) originality of ideas and contribution to the advancement of geography in the relevant subfield, (c) clarity and effectiveness of writing style, and (d) attention to the sensibilities of a diverse audience.

“You (Kruse) contributed a well-written, clear, timely article of broad interest,” commented Maria Fadiman, Honors Committee Chair, 2010.

Kruse’s was announced at the SEDAAG (Southeastern Division Association of American Geographers) honors banquet at Samford University on Nov. 22.

“I’m very honored to receive this award because it provides readers with another example of how geography can be used to understand contemporary society,” commented Kruse.
