WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., March 8, 2021 — West Liberty University today announced plans for in-person Commencement Ceremonies for spring 2021.

In order to accommodate all safety rules of social distancing and to honor all graduates, WLU is planning on five ceremonies.

A graduate degree ceremony is planned for Friday, May 7, three undergraduate degree ceremonies will take place on Saturday May 8, and a graduate degree ceremony for physician assistant (PA) students will take place on Friday, June 11.

“We are pleased to announce that we are planning to have in-person Commencement Ceremonies for our Spring 2021 graduates. We also invite 2020 graduates back to campus to participate so that those who took part in virtual ceremonies only due to COVID-19, now have a chance to walk in a ceremony and be fully recognized as a graduate,” said Scott Cook, who is WLU’s vice president of Student Services/Registrar.

2020 graduates will be asked to complete a participation form, which is available on the WLU Registrar’s webpage under the graduation dropdown. This form must be completed for planning purposes.

Due to ongoing safety concerns, guests will be limited to two guests for each graduate and there will be no receptions following the ceremonies.

Tickets for guests can be picked up in the Enrollment Center, Shaw Hall, by the graduating student from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday, May 3 through Friday, May 7 and from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, May 8. A photo ID is required.

Faculty will only participate in the ceremony for their respective college.

The ceremony for all graduate students (except for those in the PA program) will take place at 5 p.m., Friday, May 7, in the Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex (ASRC).

The Friday evening ceremony for Graduate Programs will be followed with three separate ceremonies for undergraduate students on Saturday, May 8. These ceremonies will be divided by college and also take place in the ASRC.

Friday, June 11, the in-person ceremony for the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies degree graduates will take place.

All ceremonies will include a student speaker with names of these students released in the near future. All ceremonies will follow rules of social distancing and will require face masks for those participating or attending.
