WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., March 24, 2023 — West Liberty University is excited to announce the launch of the “First Day® Complete Program” in conjunction with Barnes & Noble College (BNC). The program will enable students to have access to all required textbooks, lab manuals, access codes and electronic book versions before the first day of class and will result in significant savings for students.
“We are excited about our partnership with West Liberty University to enhance student outcomes,” said Jonathan Shar, president, Barnes & Noble College.
Referred to as Topper Ready First Day® Complete at WLU, it will start in the fall of 2023.
Students will benefit from the convenience of having all their materials ready for them at the start of classes and will see a significant cost savings. The fee charged for this service is less than half of what is currently recommended that they budget for books and should save many students hundreds of dollars per semester, according to BNC.
“West Liberty University continues to look for ways to keep the cost of a college degree affordable. Following our undergraduate tuition freeze for next year, we hope the launch of this program will show parents and students that we are committed to not only offering a quality education, but one that is financially feasible,” said WLU Interim President Cathy Monteroso.
The program is designed to ensure students a convenient way to prepare for the first day of class, facilitating their academic success.
“We want to make sure that students have the tools to be successful and we feel that this program will help them to be prepared. We have found that when students do not have the appropriate materials at the beginning of the semester, they can fall behind in their learning. Having students begin their courses with the appropriate resources will set them up for success,” said Dr. Karen Kettler, dean of the College of Sciences.
Topper Ready First Day® Complete covers all required course materials which will be provided to students either in a print or digital format based on faculty selection. Under this program, students will receive an email to verify their registered courses and materials approximately 30 days prior to the start of classes. They will then have the option to have their materials mailed to their homes, or to pick up their materials in the bookstore at the beginning of the term.
All students will be automatically enrolled into the program, but will have the option to opt-out each semester and buy their materials using a traditional method through the bookstore or alternative source.
