ORDER OF THE TORCH – 2010: You Tube Video
The second class of the “Order for the Torch,” the ranking men’s honorary, was inducted during a morning ceremony on Tuesday, April 27th.  Members of the organization include leading members of the faculty and our highest quality of students.

Both faculty and students are chosen based upon a demonstration of excellence and leadership in three areas: the classroom (academics); the campus (activities); and the community (service).

In 1932, West Liberty State Teachers’ College President J. S. Bonar organized the “Torch Society” which served as the college’s ranking men’s honorary. The organization consisted of faculty members and the campus’s most distinguished male students in terms of scholarship, service and sportsmanship.

In reconstituting this tradition, we have created the “Order of the Torch” which will serve as the ranking men’s honorary at West Liberty University. By retaining the symbol of the torch, we will maintain a tradition and a link with the rich history of the college.

The second class of the “Liber Society,” the ranking women’s honorary, was inducted during a morning ceremony on Wednesday, April 28th.  Members of the organization include leading members of the faculty and our highest quality of students.

Both faculty and students are chosen based upon a demonstration of excellence and leadership in three areas: the classroom (academics); the campus (activities); and the community (service).

The Liber Society was created in 2009 to serve as the women’s honorary society – it founding precepts are rooted in the Torch Society founded in 1932 as the men’s honorary society.
