WLU Celebrates Retirees and Milestone Employees

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va., May 16, 2019 — West Liberty University honored its dedicated staff and faculty recently, as they reached retirement or milestone years of service.

Honorees were treated to a continental breakfast reception, hosted by President Stephen Greiner and held in historic Shaw Hall’s Board of Governors room. Chief Human Resources Officer Diana Harto assisted Greiner in honoring the group.

“We join the state of West Virginia in expressing our gratitude for the many years of service provided by these employees. I personally thank them for their work and devotion to West Liberty University and its students and wish them the best in their future,” Greiner said.

He then presented retirees with a certificate from the State of West Virginia detailing their years of service. Afterwards the honorees and guests enjoyed refreshments along with memories and more congratulations.

Retirees and hometowns include:

Campus Maintenance Specialist Thomas F. Miller, West Liberty, W.Va., who amassed the most years of service of the group, working for 39 years at West Liberty University, and Associate Professor of Chemistry Norman C. Clampitt, Wellsburg, W.Va., with 23 years.

Also retiring were: Campus Police Officer Melvin L. Cunningham, Wheeling, Administrative Assistant Cynthia A. Jones, Wintersville, W.Va., and Maintenance Worker/Bus Driver D. David Stiles, Wheeling.

National Public Service Recognition Week has been celebrated the first week of May (beginning on the first Sunday of the month) since 1985 to honor the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county and local government employees.

Gov. Jim Justice also honored all State of West Virginia employees reaching milestone anniversaries on May 7 during a ceremony at the Culture Center in Charleston. Those with 30 or more years under their belt also received a lapel pin from the governor.

Established in 1837, West Liberty University is a forward-looking, four-year public university steeped in a rich heritage as West Virginia’s oldest institution. Today it offers more than 70 undergraduate majors, plus a growing number of graduate programs.
